Open Port - Songs Across Walls of Separation

Friday, September 12th, there will be a great performance for the whole family to enjoy.

Themes for the performance are separation, love, longing for someone or something on the other side of a wall. These themes are part of our own close history; the great migration to America in the 19th and 20th Century. The performance raises the question; could there be simmilarities between the Quakers who fled Stavanger in the 19th Century, and the refugees coming to Stavanger today?

The main theme for the performance is also the main theme for Stavanger 2008: European Capitol of Culture, that is: Open Port. Point of Peace is directing attention to the necessity of open doors, open ports and open gates in an era where walls are dividing the world, physically, politically and socially.

The performance is involving a large childrens choir, a youth choir and a youth symphony orchestra from the music schools in the county of Rogaland. Also participating, are several famous actors, singers, orchestras and also amateur groups.

Artistic directors for the performance are Erik Hillestad from Kirkelig Kulturverksted and Nina Wester.

We promise you a night out of the usual, with a unique scenography!
